Description

So much has been written in recent years about Alberta King’s son Martin Luther, Louise Little’s son Malcolm, and Berdis Baldwin’s son James. But almost nothing has been said about the extraordinary women who raised each of these giants.

Drawing from their own experiences, these women instilled their bountiful knowledge into their children with the faith that they too could survive the storms of a society that was set against them from the very beginning.

In her groundbreaking debut The Three Mothers, Cambridge scholar Anna Malaika Tubbs celebrates Black motherhood by sharing the stories of the three women who raised and shaped some of America’s most pivotal heroes.
